On her wedding day in the Republic era Jiangnan, a silk merchant’s daughter watches her entire family massacred. Burned alive, her face destroyed, she plunges into the Huangpu River. Three years later, she is a courtesan in Shanghai under a new name, using her pipa to get close to the man once promised to her. By his side is his new bride, the adopted daughter of her own family. In this game of vengeance wielding love as a blade, who is the real player?
